House of John (Comfort Care Home)

House of John was born in the hearts of two dedicated RNs and nurtured by a very supportive community. The idea was to care for the dying in our communities in a comfortable, home-like setting by trained volunteers and staff. This type of care is an alternative to dying at home or in an institutional setting. The house was rented to us by St. Felix Church for many years and was eventually purchased by House of John, Inc. Over the years, renovations were made to make the home more comfortable for the residents and their families. A lovely front porch was added and, most recently, a large addition was added to make the home even more accessible to both the community and families by adding to the work and living space. We feel that families can gather in comfort and enjoy the wonderful hospitality House of John has to offer. Our well-trained staff and 85 volunteers are dedicated to the care of the dying and their families. We feel privileged to share in this journe

$4,102.00 in pledges - 100% collected!

The total donations for my hike to benefit the House of John in memory of my father-in-law, Gene Trosterud, was $4,102.00! I am very thankful to everyone who pledged to the hike.

Excited and nervous!

This time tomorrow I will be more than 1/2 way through my hike. The plans are in place.

Friday 6/20/14 is the day!

Based on the current forecast, I have decided to keep the hike scheduled for this Friday as originally planned. It looks to be a picture perfect day in Western NY . . .

I reached out via Twitter to WROC-TV Channel 8 Sports Anchor Thad Brown last Wednesday inquiring if he was interested in doing a news story about my 100 hole hike.

Three weeks until my hike!

My hike is 3 weeks from today. The fundraising is going as well as can be expected.

A Florida reprieve . . . and contemplating training!

My hike is 86 days away and the weather in Western New York is still hovering in the mid-twenties with a light dusting of snow on the ground.
