Year 5 - Hundred Hole Hikes 9 & 10

It's hard to believe that we are in the fifth year of the Hundred Hole Hike. What a exciting ride it has been, seeing the success of the original Ben Cox marathon turn into something that is impacting people in a positive way across the globe. By my count, 311 golfers have done at least one Hundred Hole Hike or are slated to this year. Together, they have raised over $2.3 million for 190 different worthwhile charities. With each new hiker, each shared tweet, each Facebook like, the potential reach of the Hike spreads further and further.

The fifth year of the Hike means that it is also the fifth anniversary of the original Ben Cox marathon. On June 23, 2011, I managed to walk and play 155 holes in a day at Ballyneal for a former caddie and now lifelong friend. My family had the privilege of hosting Ben and his Dad at our house in April, and more importantly introducing them to Portillo's here in Chicago. Everything we do with the Hike tries to pay homage to Ben and his family.

This year I will be attempting to do something I swore I'd never do again after 2013 -- do two hikes in four days. On Monday June 20th, I'll be attempting to walk 155 holes at Ballyneal. On Thursday June 23rd, on the five-year anniversary of the Ben Cox marathon, I'll be hiking along with Tom Doak, Matt Ginella and Ashley Mayo at Tom's new reversible course at Forest Dunes in Roscommon, Michigan. You can find out more about that unique event here: The plan is to play 108 holes but I hope the late Northern Michigan sunsets will allow me to get to at least 144. We'll see how my left ankle holds up!

I will be hiking for the Midnight Golf Program, which provides mentorship and life skills training to young men and women in inner-city Detroit. My One Divot charity has supported MGP in the past and they are yet another example of golfers giving back to make a difference in the lives of others. Since 2011, over 800 graduates of the program have gone on to attend 90 different universities. The following video has an overview of the Program:

I appreciate your support of my 9th and 10th Hundred Hole Hikes. Please consider using the 'Pledge To This Golfer' button to help spur me on and make a difference for these young men and women in Detroit. Note that your pledge will be specific to the Ballyneal event (~155 holes) or the Forest Dunes event (108-144 holes), so please keep that in mind when you pledge. You'll receive an email not long after the event with instructions on how to fulfill directly with MGP.
