Preparing For My First Hike

About a year ago I ask good friend and golfing buddy Eric Lankford if he would be interested in doing a Hundred Hole Hike with me in 2017. After filling him in on what it would entail from start to finish he said he was in! Eric and I felt we could take our passion for golf and help use it to raise money for a local charity. This year we are doing our HHH at Dismal River Golf Club in Mullen, Nebraska and supporting Champions Committed to KIDS. We cannot thank the great people at Dismal River enough for allowing us to do our hike there. Eric and I have played the courses at Dismal River many times and the place truly is special!

We have chosen Champions Committed to KIDS in Springfield, MO as our local charity. The organization provides KIDS who are fighting chronic illnesses the chance to feel what it’s like to be part of an athletic team. To know what it means to be a teammate, to have a feeling of fellowship and a chance to build lifelong friendships. Champions Committed to KIDS partners with two local hospitals, Mercy and Cox Health, to place children with medical conditions and disabilities on local athletic programs throughout the Springfield, MO region. Eric serves on the board for the charity and after attending an event of theirs last fall and seeing first hand what this great organization does for local kids I told him I wanted to help out.

So what will our day be like? We will plan to tee off at approximately 4:45am as the sun rises early in western Nebraska. In order to accomplish our goal of 150 holes played we figure we will walk close to 50 miles that day! Pace of play will be very fast. We will not take practice swings or spend much time lining up putts. Our goal is to try and shoot the best score we can but at a very quick pace. Hopefully we can both keep it under 800 strokes for the day! My wife, Tegan, and Eric's wife, Jennifer, have agreed to carry our bags and will be logging the same number of miles! Their dedication to helping us accomplish our goal in support of a great cause is much appreciated! The four of us have been training and preparing for what will be one tough day! We hope to meet our goal sometime around 8:00pm! Who wouldn't want to play golf for almost 15 hours straight??!!

You might want to know how you can help us raise money for Champions Committed to Kids. The best way to do this is by clicking on the “Pledge Thru Me” button next to my name on this website. You can choose a Per Hole Pledge or Lump Sum Pledge. You can also choose Bonus Pledges that are performance based. I am not a great golfer so your bonus pledges for Birdies, Eagles and Hole-in-one, will not hurt your bank account too bad, but are appreciated. You are not providing bank account or credit card information at this time. You are only pledging your contribution. You will receive an email at the conclusion of the event with instructions on how to fulfill your contribution to Champions Committed to Kids. 100% of the money raised will go directly to Champions Committed to Kids.

Keep checking back for more blog updates and follow me on social media as I will be giving updates throughout the day on June 19th!
