Hiking in support of Tanya Grubich

My name is Stephenie Harris and my wife, Tanya Grubich is the love of my life. We met in December 2010 and married in the summer of 2014. When we met, Tanya was a tour de force, a pillar in the Broadway community. In the Spring of 2014, Tanya was diagnosed with Frontal Temporal Dementia and later that summer, the diagnosis elevated to Early Onset Alzheimer’s. Devastating news.

Tanya’s disease was brought on by traumatic brain injuries, too many concussions, like the football players. Since her diagnosis in 2014, we have tried everything: diet, exercise, stem cell treatment, brain camp and most recently, Atlas Bone adjustment by Dr. Scott Rosa. The greatest success we have seen is Atlas Bone adjustment – it is the bone at the top of your spine in your brain. With TBI, there is good chance your Atlas Bone will go out of alignment and restrict blood flow and/or spinal fluid flow. While Tanya is far from cured, we feel like we are slowing the rapid progress of her disease. I am writing you today to ask for your financial support in maintaining Tanya’s bi-weekly trips to see Dr. Rosa.

Additionally, the one area we have not been covered by my loss of income is being able to maintain golf in our lives. Any of our friends will attest how much Tanya enjoys the game. Luckily for me, it’s probably because she knows how much I enjoy it and she loves how much fun we have together. She has definitely struggled through the last year to play. She had a good nine holes in her. She would drive the cart, scary to anyone who knew her driving and I would walk. After teeing off, I would hand her the correct club for the next shot and off she would go. I would meet her on the green. Not only would she card at least one par a 9, every blue moon, there was the serious threat for a birdie. Golf has been the one expense we have not been able to keep up with and I am hoping to raise funds towards this and the ongoing medical expenses.

To raise funds, I am participating in the 100 Hole Hike. A bunch of golf crazy people around the country play at least a Hundred Holes of golf in one day. I am participating with the Outpost Club on May 15th at Brookville Country Club on Long Island. I am asking for either a lump sum donation from $50 to $100, or whatever you are comfortable donating - perhaps more.

The 100 Hole Hike is the greatest, most rewarding day in the golf calendar for me. It is a longer walk (and playing golf) than running a marathon. As anyone who plays golf knows well, it is a microcosm of your life. The things you can control and the things you cannot. It teaches you how to be a great companion even when things are not going your way. Or a gracious winner when every shot is a beautiful one. This season has been challenging for Tanya. The first two outings only found one or two balls in the air. But we found something last week and it bolstered her spirits for a good day or two. She even walked with me for 9 holes and loved every minute of it. Those are the moments that will keep me walking and playing when I'm past my current fitness level.

I appreciate your support.
