108 Holes Later

I have officially completed the Hundred Hole Hike and am proud to announce that I achieved my goal of walking 108 holes in 1 day! The 34+ mile journey began at 4:40am, ended at 6:45pm and consisted of 498 strokes, 14 double bogeys or worse, 17 3-putts, 7 lost balls, 1 shank, a worst round of 88, a lot of sweat, blisters, aches & pains, a bunch of smiles and laughs, an average round of 83, 46 pars, 6 birdies, a best 6th round score of 78 and birdies on holes 107 & 108......all in 93 degree heat and 20-30 mph winds.

It truly was one of the more gratifying experiences of my life and there is absolutely no chance I would have been able to finish if it weren't for all support from fellow hikers, family and friends. I was lucky enough to have Edgar and Erika, two DMSF high school scholarship recipients and Evans Scholars, there by my side the whole day. Their assistance and continuous enthusiasm lifted me, especially when I was running on empty.

When all said and done, the 34+ mile trek, 498 strokes, aches and pains, and constant struggles endured that day are now so insignificant when compared to the life-altering difference that will result from your support. Together we will provide the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Fund with enough to send another scholar to one of the city's strongest high schools and ignite their potential. Again, thank you to all those that made this special day happen and to all those that supported me throughout the process.
